Women's Basketball Suffers 69-49 Setback at #12 Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Trinity College Women's Basketball team fell at 12th-ranked Bates College, 69-49, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Alumni Gym Friday night. The Bantams sit at 15-7 on the season and 4-4 in conference, while the Bobcats move to 19-2 and 6-1 in the NESCAC.
 
What Happened:
  • The Bobcats controlled play to open the first quarter as eight points from Elsa Daulerio gave Bates a 10-2 lead. The Bantams worked the deficit down to 15-9 in the final minutes of the frame, and then Marlo Simms delivered back-to-back buckets to make it 19-13 heading into the second.
  • Jumpers from Maya Carnes sandwiched a layup from Simms as Trinity evened the score at 19-19 with 6:57 on the clock. After a jumper from Lucy Dorion put the Bantams within a point, 23-22, the Bobcats used an 8-2 run to hold a 31-24 edge at the break.
  • Leading 33-30 with 7:00 minutes remaining in the third, Bates began to pull away with a 17-4 run to close the third quarter with a 50-34 advantage. The Bobcats used four points from Daulerio and three points from Lily Lambo escorted the lead to 59-35 with 6:14 to play. Trinity had late buckets from Kiki Fossbender, Melissa Whitmore and Hannah Boone en route to the 69-49 defeat.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams connected on 39.7% (27-of-68) from the field, 20% (3-of-15) from three-point range, and 75% (12-of-16) from the free throw stripe.
  • The Bobcats shot 33.9% (20-of-59) from the floor, 10% (1-of-10) from three-point, and 66.7% (8-of-12) from the foul line.

  • Carnes paced the Bantams with a team-high 11 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high two assists.
  • Simms posted her 13th double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Whitmore and Avery Marzo chipped in six points apiece.
  • The Bobcats had three scorers with double figures, led by Daulerio with 17 points, four rebounds, three blocks, and two assists.
  • Sarah Hughes tallied 10 points, five rebounds, a game-high five assists and three steals, while Lambo added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

  • The Bantams will look to return to the win column when they travel to Colby College (13-8, 3-4 NESCAC) for a NESCAC game on Friday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m.
