CLERMONT, Fla. – Trinity Softball split a sun-soaked doubleheader on Wednesday, falling to the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, 9-1, in five innings before bouncing back with a 9-7 victory over Ramapo College.
Game 1: Trinity 1, UW–La Crosse 9 (5 inn.)
- The Bantams struck first in the opening inning, as Emily Goddard doubled to right-center to drive in Katie Ruffer for an early 1-0 lead.
- UW–La Crosse responded immediately, plating three runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Marissa Pease. The Eagles continued to build their lead in the second, using a two-run double down the right field line to extend the advantage to 5-1. An error later in the inning allowed another run to score, and two additional runs crossed the plate before the frame ended.
- Trinity's defense showed resilience late in the inning, as Abby Alper, Makenna True, Katie Ruffer, and Mikayla O'Brien combined to execute a rundown and close out the threat.
- Zofia Sargent entered in relief of Heather Roth and finished the game in the circle. UW–La Crosse added its final run in the fourth inning on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
- The Bantams generated a few scoring opportunities, including hits from Alper in the third and True in the fourth, but left runners stranded in both innings.

Game 2: Trinity 9, Ramapo 7
- Ramapo opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run double from Hannah Hensler.
- The Bantams answered in a big way in the bottom half, capitalizing on defensive miscues. After Abby Alper and Kellie Schroffner reached on errors, Isabella Calagna delivered an RBI single up the middle. Another Ramapo error allowed Trinity to load the bases, and Makenna True followed with a two-run single to give the Bantams a 3-2 lead. Mikayla O'Brien added an RBI single later in the inning, and Trinity took a 4-2 advantage after one.
- Ramapo chipped away with a solo home run from Paley Sullivan in the second, but Trinity responded again as Goddard launched a two-run home run to center field, scoring Schroffner and extending the lead to 6-3. Following the Ramapo home run the Bantams sent Kaysen Shikar to relieve Erin Connor from the pitching lanes.
- Katie Ruffer added to the offense in the fourth inning, blasting a solo home run to left field to make it 7-3. Later in the inning, Alper came through with a two-run single through the left side with the bases loaded, pushing the Bantams' lead to 9-3.
- Ramapo mounted a late comeback, scoring once in the fifth and adding three more runs in the seventh to pull within two. With the tying run at the plate, Trinity turned to Zofia Sargent in relief.
- Sargent recorded a crucial strikeout before Ramapo added a run on a sacrifice fly. With runners still in motion, Alper's throw home was just late, but Makenna True quickly fired to Goddard to catch a runner attempting to advance to third, ending the game and securing the 9-7 victory.
- Sargent earned the save.
