HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team mounted a late push but ultimately fell to visiting No. 1 Tufts University, 17-11, in a NESCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at Muldoon-Tansill Stadium.
The Bantams drop to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Jumbos improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the NESCAC.
How it Happened:
- Tufts and Trinity traded goals early in the opening quarter, with the score tied at 2-2 five minutes into play. Jay Ottomanelli accounted for both Bantam goals, with assists from Bo Page and Conley Bohan.
- The Jumbos responded with a five-goal run to take a 7-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
- In the second, Tufts fired 10 shots on goal but managed just two scores against Trinity goalkeeper Davis Ike, who kept the Bantams within striking distance as they trailed 9-2 at halftime.
- Trinity found offensive rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring Tufts 5-4. The Bantams opened the half with three unanswered goals, including an unassisted tally from Miles Harvey, followed by goals from Jake Connors and Ottomanelli, with assists credited to Bohan and Carter Barford, cutting the deficit to 9-5.
- Tufts answered with four straight goals to extend its lead to 13-5, but Trinity closed the quarter with momentum. With 1:17 remaining, Bohan capitalized in transition after a misplayed Tufts shot, finishing a quick clear from Ike to Page that led to a 4-on-2 opportunity. Page found Bohan along the goal line for a one-on-one finish.
- Ottomanelli added another goal off a feed from Harvey, bringing the Bantams within 13-7 heading into the fourth.
- Trinity continued its push early in the final quarter. Page scored on a man-up opportunity following a feed from behind the net by Wong, and at the 10:30 mark, Connors beat his defender to net his second goal of the day, trimming the deficit to 13-9.
- Tufts halted the run with its 14th goal, but Trinity answered again as Billy Gerne scored on an unassisted effort down the right side to make it 14-10.
- Ottomanelli completed his five-goal performance with a one-touch finish off a pass from Bohan, cutting the deficit to three. However, the Jumbos sealed the game with three late goals to secure the 17-11 victory.
- The 17 goals allowed by Trinity mark the fewest surrendered to Tufts since 2019, while the six-goal margin is the closest final since a two-goal (16-14) loss in 2018.
