Baseball Drops Slugfest to Babson, 14-10

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team fell to visiting Babson College, 14-10, in a non-conference game at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Bantams move to 11-5, while the Beavers sit at 10-7 overall.
 
What Happened:
  • The Beavers took the opening lead of the game as Gabe Cushner knocked an RBI single through the right side of the infield to stake Babson to a 1-0 edge in the top of the second.
  •  The Bantams responded in the bottom of the frame with a five-run inning paced by a two-run single from Tyler Bernstein, a two-run double from Dylan Schnitzer and an RBI single by Aidan Stevenson to grab a 5-1 lead.
  • Babson chipped away at the deficit in the top of the third as RBI doubles from Ben Valente and Cushner helped close the gap to 5-4. Timmy Domizio belted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third to regain a 6-4 advantage for Trinity.
  • The Beavers offense erupted for eight runs in the top of the fourth as RBI knocks from Valente and Bobby Christensen evened the score at 6-6. Ryan Grace delivered an RBI double to centerfield, and then three batters later, Brooks Saft ripped an three-run double to right field, putting Babson ahead 11-6.
  • Andrew Park launched a two-run home run over the right field fence to trim the gap to 12-8 in the fourth. The Beavers added insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI double from Christensen and an RBI single from Valente. Bernstein and Schnitzer tacked on RBIs in the seventh to set the final score at 14-10.
 
Inside the Boxscore:
  • The Bantams plated 10 runs on 12 hits, while the Beavers drove in 14 runs on 14 hits, including eight extra-base hits.
  • Bernstein went 3-for-6 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Park drove in two runs on two hits with a run scored.
  • Luis Saldivia and Cole Mascolo both added two hits and two runs scored, with Stevenson and Domizio chipping in RBIs.
  • Trinity starter Brendan Grady allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits with two strikeouts. John Sharkey tallied two strikeouts in two-plus innings out of the bullpen, while Luke Shalkham recorded two strikeouts in his collegiate debut.
 
Up Next:
  • The Bantams will be back in action when they host Williams College (6-8, 1-2 NESCAC) in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) series on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for Friday is slated for 3:30 p.m.
  • All-time, Trinity holds a 47-67 record against the Ephs, dating back to their first meeting in 1887.
  • This will be the first meeting between the squads since the Bantams grabbed a 7-4 victory in the 2023 season.
