HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team walked off visiting University of Saint Joseph, 10-9, in a non-conference game at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 15-6 on the season, while the Blue Jays slide to 18-9 overall.
What Happened:
- The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Sam Balducci brought home a pair of runs on an RBI single to left field.
- Trinity chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the second as Dylan Schnitzer belted a solo home run over the left field fence.
- Aidan Stevenson led off the fourth inning with a double, advanced to third on a single from Schnitzer and then scored on a sac fly from William Sawyer to knot the game at 2-2.
- After Jack Kane homered in the top of the fifth inning to regain a 3-2 lead for Saint Joseph, Trinity responded with an RBI single from Luis Saldivia to make it a 3-3 game. Saldivia scored on a bases loaded walk to Aidan Stern, and then Timmy Domizio plated a pair of runs on a single to left-center to hand the Bantams a 6-3 lead.
- The Blue Jays battled back with an RBI sac fly from Dom Scalia, followed by a two-run single from Ryan Quinn to knot the score at 6-6.
- With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Andrew Park launched a three-run home run beyond the right field fence, putting Trinity ahead 9-6. Again, Saint Joseph answered in the top of the ninth behind two-out RBI knocks from Ryan Quinn and Sam Balducci to send the game to the bottom of the ninth tied at 9-9.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Saldivia drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then crossed home as the game-winning run on an RBI single from Pete Beisel to hand Trinity the 10-9 victory.
Inside the Boxscore:
- The Bantams slugged out 10 runs on 10 hits with four extra-base hits, while the Blue Jays plated nine runs on nine hits. Both sides committed two errors during the game.
- Park went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Schnitzer and Saldivia each added two hits, including an extra-base hit, and an RBI. Saldivia added two runs scored and stole three bases in the win.
- Beisel was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Domizio drove in two runs.
- Trinity starter Brendan Grady allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with three strikeouts in three innings, while Will Friedman surrendered one run on one hit in three innings of work. Tyler Fahey (1-0) earned the win in relief, giving up one run on one hit with a strikeout in 2.2 innings pitched.
