No.10 Trinity Gears up for NCAA Third Round Battle Against No.8 Pomona-Pitzer

HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 10-ranked Trinity College Women's Lacrosse team heads to Wesleyan University for the third round of the NCAA Tournament, where they will meet No. 8-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, May 16, for a 2 p.m. clash on Smith Field in Middletown, Conn.

Trinity enters the contest with a 12-7 overall record, including an 8-4 mark in NESCAC play and a perfect 9-0 record at home. The Bantams finished ninth in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.

The Sagehens captured their fifth straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (SCIAC) to secure an automatic bid into the tournament. The Sagehens improved to 17-1 overall after their second-round victory over conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a rematch of their championship battle.

Bantam Bytes

  • The Bantams had five members land on the IWLCA All-Region list for the Berkshire Region: First Team recognition was awarded to seniors Samantha Hark and Grace Denious, along with sophomore Emily Ambrozy, while senior Kaeley Zito and junior Kelsey Restivo earned Second Team honors.
  • NESCAC All-Conference honorees included: First Team recognition was awarded to seniors Samantha Hark and Grace Denious, while junior Kelsey Restivo and sophomore Emily Ambrozy earned Second Team honors.
  • The Bantams' offense is led by senior Grace Denious and junior Kelsey Restivo, each tallying 30 goals this season, along with 23 assists apiece. Both attackmen are ranked in the top 10 of the NESCAC, averaging 1.74 assists per game.
  • Kaeley Zito also hit the mark of 30 goals this season while also handing out eight assists, along with 29 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, and a team-high 42 draw controls.
  • Alex Lesko, Lily Acerra, and Sarah Marvin all have passed the 20-goal threshold this season and add to the Bantams' success. First-year Acerra tallied double-digit assists (10) along with her 22 goals in her rookie season, posting a .684 shots-on-goal percentage.
  • Samantha Hark leads the corps with 55 caused turnovers this year, along with 32 ground balls on the defensive end of play. Sophomore Emily Ambrozy is following her veteran counterparts with 30 caused turnovers and 48 ground balls, adding 13 draw controls. June Trodden helps in the backfield with 25 draw controls, 25 ground balls, and 27 caused turnovers.
  • In the crease for the Bantams, senior Alison MacDougal owns a 13-5 record with 132 saves this season for a .487 save percentage.

Pomona Bytes

  • A total of eight Sagehens were named All-SCIAC First and Second Team members: senior Shelby Stanton, first-year Maihue Miranda Wiltberger, senior River Buecher, senior Izzy Sabatino, senior Taylor Glanville, sophomore Caili Cross, first-year Piper Higgins, and senior Gwynn Sullivan.
  • Stanton and Wiltberger earned top SCIAC accolades as Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, respectively, while head coach Sarah Queener and her staff received Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
  • IWLCA All-Region honorees included Caili Cross, Taylor Glanville, Maihue Miranda Wiltberger, Izzy Sabatino, and Shelby Stanton, who were all selected as First Team members. River Buechner, Chloe Denhart, and Piper Higgins each earned Second Team nods.
  • On offense, the Sagehens are led by Cross with 40 goals, 18 assists, and 34 ground balls, while Higgins has 37 goals, 19 assists, and a team-high 38 ground balls.
  • Taylor Glanville has a stat line of 29 goals, eight assists, 35 ground balls, 20 caused turnovers, and 26 draw controls.
  • Defenders junior Chloe Denhart and Stanton both have double-doubles on defense, with Denhart tallying 30 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers, while Stanton has 23 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers.
  • First-year Madeleine Trapp knows how to find her teammates, dishing out 42 assists this season while adding 22 goals herself.
  • In goal, the Sagehens have junior Cailey Brousseau, who owns a 6.45 goals-against average with 44 saves this season, a .423 save percentage, and a 10-1 record.

The Bantams will face Pomona-Pitzer for the third time in program history, with the all-time series tied at 1-1 against the Sagehens. The two teams most recently met in Claremont, Calif., in March 2025, when Trinity suffered a 16-10 setback.

The first meeting between the programs came in the Round of 16 of the 2015 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship at Robin L. Sheppard Field, where the Bantams snapped Pomona-Pitzer's 10-game winning streak with a commanding 16-2 victory.
