Hartford, Conn.
- First-year Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) scored
late in the first half on a corner kick from senior co-captain
Erika Maciaszczyk (Milton, Mass.), and senior
co-captain Devin Nwanagu (Westborough, Mass.)
added a second-half, penalty kick goal to lead the Trinity College
Bantams to a 2-0 victory over the New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Bates College Bobcats this
afternoon. The Bantams improve to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the
league with their first win in five games, while the Bobcats slip
to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the NESCAC.
Bates had control early in the match, but as the first half
progressed, Trinity gained momentum and retained possession on the
offensive end for the majority of play before intermission.
Howard and fellow first-year Jenny Ley (Warwick,
R.I.) created opportunities on the offensive end,
sophomores Morgan Sackman (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.)
and Maika Scifo (River Edge, N.J.) controlled the
ball in the middle of the field, and sophomroe Caroline
Washburne (Medfield, Mass.) made things difficult
for Bates forwards while anchoring a defense that allowed just
eight shots on the afternoon. Bates first-year goalkeeper
Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) made 11 saves in
net, while Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.) made
six saves for the Bantams in the shutout.
