Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin College Polar Bear men's soccer
team scored twice in a seven-minute span in the second half,
erasing a one-goal deficit to take a 2-1 victory over the visiting
Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon. The
Polar Bears improve to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the NESCAC, while the
Bantams drop to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in the league.
After a scoreless opening stanza that saw the teams trade good
chances only to be stymied by the opposing goaltenders, Trinity
broke through to open the second period. An initial shot towards
the goal was stopped by Bowdoin's Dan Hicks, but the rebound came
loose and was jammed home by Trinity's Peter Marlette
(Buffalo, N.Y.) to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at
51:50.
The Bantams barely had time to catch their breath before Bowdoin
replied just 46 seconds later. Brendan Mooney played a pass to Nick
Powell from the right wing, and Powell netted the game-tying goal
at 52:36. Just over seven minutes later, Carl Woock crossed a
ball into the box from the left side to Mooney at the top of the
box. Mooney's volley tucked into the lower-right corner to give
Bowdoin the lead. Hicks made the advantage hold by making
four saves in all. Zac Trudeau (Norwell,
Mass.) was strong in net for Trinity, making seven
saves for the Bantams, who were out-shot 16-7 by the Polar Bears.
