Hartford, Conn. - Senior captain Jake Duker (Newton,
Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 1:45 remaining in
the first overtime to lead the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs
to a 2-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in the New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer regular
season finale for both teams this afternoon. Trinity, ranked
No. 2 in New England and No. 22 in the nation, finished with a 10-4
regular season mark and a 5-4 record in the NESCAC.
The Bantams have qualified for the NESCAC Championship
Tournament for the second consecutive season and will host the
Tufts University Jumbos in a quarterfinal game on Sunday, Nov. 2 at
noon. Amherst, ranked No. 10 in New England, closes the

Duker received the ball from sophomore Ian Roskopf
(Harvard, Mass.) and found himself with a clear shot
with nobody left to beat but the goalie from 12 yards away, and
punched the ball in over Bantam senior keeper Zac Trudeau's
(Norwell, Mass.) reach. Lord Jeff junior
Mark Crane (Cambridge, Mass.) also assisted on the
play.
Trinity opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a
goal by senior Nick Cantone (New York,
N.Y.). Trudeau sent the ball the length of the field
and its was cleared out by an Amherst defender. Lord Jeff
freshman goalie Lennard Kovacs (Wolfersdorf,
Germany) had come out of the net, and Cantone quickly
retrieved the ball and scored before Kovacs could get back from 40
yards out on the left wing. Trinity maintained its lead for
the next 51 minutes, despite several scoring chances for Amherst
including two that were stopped on diving saves by Trudeau.
Lord Jeff freshman James Mooney (Princeton, N.J.)
tied the score with 21:54 left in regulation on a quick and
unexpected shot from outside the box. Trudeau finished with
10 saves and Kovacs made seven saves in the goals. The teams
combined for 29 fouls and yellow cards.
