Plattsburgh, N.Y. - Freshman guard Kaitlin Ciarleglio
(Waterbury, Conn.) scored a team-high 16 points and added
three steals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 70-50 win
over the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers in the opening round of the
2008 Cardinal Classic Women's Basketball Tournament this evening at
Memorial Hall. Trinity improves to 3-0 and advances to the
championship game against the host SUNY-Plattsburgh Cardinals
tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Chargers fall to 2-1 and will play
Wheelock in the tournament consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The Bantams went ahead, 32-31, at the end of the first half on a
layup with 44 seconds left by junior guard Claire Arnstein
(Hicksville, N.Y.) and never trailed after that
point. Trinity doubled up Colby-Sawyer in the second half,
38-19, holding the Chargers to just four field goals after the
break, and scored the first six points of the second frame on a
pair of jumpers by junior forward Christine Card
(Waterbury, Conn.) and a pair of free throws by classmate
Tess Donie (Worcester, Mass.).
Trinity sophomore center Molly McGlynn (Sleepy Hollow,
N.Y.) joined Ciarleglio in double figures in scoring with
13 points and added eight rebounds, while Card and Donie each
scored 10 points, and Card added six boards. Charger junior
forward Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) led all
scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
