Trinity Women's Basketball Takes Cardinal Classic Crown

Plattsburgh, N.Y. - Senior forward and tournament most valuable player Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.) had game highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead visiting the Trinity College Bantams past the SUNY-Plattsburgh Cardinals, 64-47, in the championship game of the Cardinal Women's Basketball Classic this afternoon at Memorial Hall.  The Bantams remain unbeaten at 4-0 while the Cardinals dip to 1-2.

Trinity took advantage of Plattsburgh's early shooting woes and took a 39-19 halftime lead.  The Cardinals made only 25 percent of their field goal attempts (9-for-36) while the Bantams were at a 47.2 clip (17-forf-36).  Trinity maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, although Vanessa Arthurton scored six points during an 11-2 Plattsburgh run in the opening minutes that made it 41-30 only to see the Bantams respond with 7-0 run to make it an 18-point cushion with 13 minutes and 38 seconds left.

Claire Arnstein (Hicksville, N.Y.) added 12 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Bantams, who held a 48-36 rebounding advantage.  Plattsburgh's Erin Silberberg had a team-high 19 points off the bench, Arthurton added 13 rebounds and four steals, and Taylor Amarando chipped in 11 points.  Bantam junior Tess Donie (Worcester, MAss.), Arnstein, and Card graced the all-tournament team.
