Plattsburgh, N.Y. - Senior forward and tournament most valuable
player Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.) had game
highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead visiting the Trinity
College Bantams past the SUNY-Plattsburgh Cardinals, 64-47, in the
championship game of the Cardinal Women's Basketball Classic this
afternoon at Memorial Hall. The Bantams remain unbeaten at
4-0 while the Cardinals dip to 1-2.
Trinity took advantage of Plattsburgh's early shooting woes and
took a 39-19 halftime lead. The Cardinals made
only 25 percent of their field goal attempts (9-for-36) while
the Bantams were at a 47.2 clip (17-forf-36). Trinity
maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half,
although Vanessa Arthurton scored six points during an
11-2 Plattsburgh run in the opening minutes that made it 41-30 only
to see the Bantams respond with 7-0 run to make it an 18-point
cushion with 13 minutes and 38 seconds left.
Claire Arnstein (Hicksville,
N.Y.) added 12 points, five rebounds and three steals for
the Bantams, who held a 48-36 rebounding advantage.
Plattsburgh's Erin Silberberg had a team-high 19 points off the
bench, Arthurton added 13 rebounds and four steals, and Taylor
Amarando chipped in 11 points. Bantam junior Tess Donie
(Worcester, MAss.), Arnstein, and Card graced the all-tournament
team.
