Hartford, Conn. - Junior co-captain guard Claire
Arnstein (Hicksville, N.Y.) totaled 16 points, six
rebounds, three assists, and two steals to lead the Trinity College
Bantams to an 86-40 win over the visiting Becker College Hawks in
women's basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity improves to 6-0 with the win in its home opener, while the
Hawks drop to 1-4 with their second loss in a row. The
Bantams are off to their best start since 1999-00.
Trinity trailed, 12-10, seven minutes into the game but Arnstein
and freshman guard Michelle Royals (Torrington,
Conn.) combined to rattle off 11 points in a row for an
21-12 Bantam lead halfway through the first half. Trinity
cruised to a 47-26 lead at the break and held the Hawks to 14
points and five field goals in the second half.
Royals came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points,
making seven out of nine shots from the field, while fellow rookie
Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.) added 10
points and five assists, and freshman forward Brianne
Cowden (Jamison, Pa.) scored 10 points. Senior
forward Catherine Doyle (Cambridge, Mass.) led a
dominant effort on the boards with 10, as Trinity outrebounded
Becker, 54-19. Bantam sophomore guard Kristen Fahey
(Cumberland, R.I.) dished out a game-high seven assists
and added six rebounds. Senior center Beth Pion
(Enfield, Conn.) scored nine of her team-high 13 points in
the first seven minutes, and added four rebounds, three assists,
and four blocked shots for Becker.
