Middletown, Conn. - Junior Samuel Wisner netted a pair of
second-half goals, finishing off a picture-perfect pass by junior
Jason Kulik with a header in the 56th minute and one-timing a
corner kick by junior Chris Doran in the 65th minute, as the
Trinity College Bantams posted a 3-1 victory over the Wesleyan
University Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) Men's soccer action this afternoon.
Trinity improves to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC with its
third straight win, while the Cardinals drop to 2-2-1 overall and
1-1-1 in the league.
Trinity scored in the opening minute when senior Michael Van
Beuren sent a long ball into the Wesleyan half of the field.
When Wesleyan goalie sophomore Nigel Stacey came out to play the
ball, it bounded over his head, leaving Bantam freshman Dan
Mayernick alone to collect the ball and send it into an open goal
just 59 seconds into the contest. Wesleyan responded with a
game-tying goal off the foot of senior Kyle Nuland in the 38th
minute. He received a pass from senior Matt Nevin, trapped
and turned, then fired a low bounder to the right of a diving
senior Trinity goalie Zac Trudeau. Wisner put Trinity ahead
for good and added his another nine minutes later. Trudeau
came up with eight and Stacey had three saves for Wesleyan.
