Purchase, N.Y. - Freshman Shawna Altdorf (Broolyn,
Conn.) scored her second goal in as many days to give
Trinity College the lead in the 63rd minute and classmate
Lily Pepper (Princeton Junction, N.J.) made three
saves in her collegiate debut in goal, as the Bantams downed the
Keene State College Owls, 3-1, in the second round of the Valiant
Women's Soccer Classic at Manhattanville College this
afternoon. Trinity improves to 2-0, the best record of the
four teams in the tournament, while the Owls fall to 3-1.
Altdorf netted the go-ahead goal on a cross by fellow rookie
Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I.), after the teams had
carried a 1-1 tie into intermission. Keene State opned the
scoring with a goal by Katie Bradford (Lebanon,
N.H.) 9:18 into the contest, but Trinity freshman
Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) answered with a
game-tying score in the 19th minute off a corner kick. Bantam
junior Caitlin Prendergast (Braintree, Mass.) took
advantage of a goalie mistake by the Owls to add an insurance goal
with 11:2 left in the game, and Trinity would need that score as
the Owls pulled within one goal on a late penalty kick goal by
Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction,
Vt.).
