Hartford, Conn. - Freshman Zach Ostrup (Rancho
Santa Fe, Calif.) and junior goalkeeper Dan Hicks
(New York, N.Y.) each scored their first collegiate goal
to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 2-0 win over the
Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon on Campus
Field. Trinity, ranked No. 11 in the nation, snaps a
five-game win-streak as they fall to 10-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in
the league with the loss, while Bowdoin improves to 9-3-1 and 4-3-1
in the NESCAC.
Ostrup scored the eventual game-winner in the 35th
minute of the game, which, thanks to Hicks, was all the Polar Bears
would need. In perhaps the most critical moment of the game, Hicks
made a diving save on a penalty shot by junior Peter
Marlette (Buffalo, N.Y.) to preserve a 1-0 lead late in
the second half. Moments later, Hicks took advantage of a
slick field with a long distance goal of his own, scoring on a goal
kick that bounced over the head of Trinity sophomore goalkeeper
Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.). Hicks
finished the game with seven saves for his sixth shutout of the
season. Schonberg made three saves for the Bantams.
