Hartford, Conn. - Senior center Katie Tausanovitch
( Lyme,
N.H.) scored 14 points, grabbed four
rebounds, and blocked three shots to lead the visiting Tufts
University Jumbos to a 62-46 win over the Trinity College Bantams
in women's basketball action this evening at Oosting
Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 15-6 with its fourth consecutive
loss and its second home loss to Tufts in five days, while the
Jumbos, ranked No. 16 in the nation, improve to 18-3. Tufts
won at Trinity, 64-42, last Friday.
Trinity held a 6-2 lead in the first two minutes, before the
Jumbos rattled off 16 unanswered points to go ahead, 18-6, with
just under 12 minutes on the clock. Tufts cruised to a 34-17
lead at the break, as sophomore guard Lindsay Weiner
(Rockville, Md.) and freshman forward Rachel
Figaro (Windham, N.H.) provided a spark with nine and
eight points off the bench, respectively. The Jumbos, which
held the Bantams to six field goals in 26 attempts in the first
stanza (23.1 percent), maintained a double-digit advantage for the
entire second half.
Trinity junior forward Christine Card (Waterbury,
Conn.) had a team-high 14 points and led all rebounders
with nine, while freshman guard Michelle Royals
(Torrington, Conn.) dished out a team-high four
assists. Junior forward Julia Baily (Farmington,
Conn.) and Figaro grabbed seven boards apiece to pace
Tufts on the glass, and junior guard Vanessa Miller
(Cincinnati, Ohio) collected a game-high six assists and
four rebounds.
