Howard Propels Trinity Women's Soccer To Shutout Win At Bates

Lewiston, Maine - Sophomore forward Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) scored the only two goals of the contest to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-0 victory over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon at Russell Street Field.  Trinity improves to 2-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the NESCAC with its second win in a row, while Bates falls to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC.

Bates sophomore goalie Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) provided a stellar performance with a career-high 17 saves, as Trinity kept Burns and her Bates defense active with a 31-14 overall shot advantage.  Howard's first and game-winning goal came in the 19th minute of the contest, when she beat Burns to a lead pass sent ahead by senior midfielder Lauren Olsen (Cheshire, Conn.) and kicked it into the left corner of the net. Howard later gave the Bantams breathing room on a pass from sophomore teammate Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I.).  Junior goalie Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.) had six saves for the Bantams.
