Hartford, Conn. - Junior tri-captain forward Luke
MacDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) poured in 29 points, 13
rebounds, and two assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a
72-53 win over the visiting St. Joseph's College Bears in men's
basketball action this afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity improves to 8-7 overall with its third win in four games,
while the Bears fall to 2-12 overall
Down 10-5 early in the game, Trinity went on a 12-0 run to take
a 17-10 lead. The Bears were able to keep pace the remainder
of the half, trailing by just seven at the midway point,
30-23.
Trinity increased their lead to 12, with the score at 43-35
early in the second half. The Bears would not go away, as
senior Larry Fawcett (Middle Village, N.Y.) hit a
three-pointer with 10:46 on the clock to cut the Bantam lead to
43-40. At the 7:05 clip, Fawcett came up with another clutch
trey, bringing the Bears within two points. A bucket by
sophomore forward Jon Pike (Exeter, N.H.) at the
6:45 mark would start a 9-0 Trinity run, and give the Bantams a
cushion the rest of the way.
Trinity sophomore center Chris Applegate (High Point,
N.C.) collected 14 points, nine rebounds, and two steals
and sophomore tri-captain Salah Abdo (Chelsea,
Mass.) added 11 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and
two steals for the Bantams. After tonight's performance,
MacDougall is averaging 20.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game
in his last three contests. Junior guard Justin Gist
(Newsome, Fla.) highlighted the statistical sheet for St
Joseph's, collecting 18 points, seven rebounds, and three
assists.
Trinity will host NESCAC rival and No. 20-ranked Amherst on
Sat., Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. in the second half of a women's and men's
