Hartford, Conn. – In a
frustrating offensive day for both sides, the Trinity College
Bantams and the Tufts University Jumbos battled to a 0-0 tie after
two overtime periods in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon on
Campus Field. Trinity moves to 5-5-1 on the season and 2-4-1
in the league, while Tufts moves to 4-5-2 on the year and 2-2-2 in
the conference.
Missed opportunities were the story of the
day, highlighted by a late chance for the Jumbos in the later
stages of the second half when freshman forward Jono
Edelman (Memphis, Tenn.) lured Trinity junior goalkeeper
Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) out of the net and
slipped a shot by him, before Trinity freshman defender
Andrew Mcnair (Westport, Conn.) would win a sprint
with the ball to the goal line to change the destiny of its path
with a sliding kick save.
Schonberg matched Tufts junior goalkeeper
Alan Bernstein (Wayne, N.J.) save-for-save, as
each made several key stops on their opponents scoring
chances. Schonberg finished the game with nine saves for the
Bantams, while Bernstein made eight stops in the evenly matched
game. Trinity has gone to overtime in four straight matches,
and in five games this season. The Bantams hold a 1-3-1
record in overtime games.
