Two Second Half Goals Push Bowdoin Men's Soccer Past Trinity

Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin College Poalr Bear men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat the visiting Trinity College Bantams, 2-0, this afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon.  Trinity drops to 6-6-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the NESCAC with its first loss in three games, while the Polar Bears, ranked No. 14 in the nation, improve to 9-1-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the league with their eighth consecutive victory.  Trinity can qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament with a win in its regular-season finale at Amherst on Friday.

After a scoreless first period, Bowdoin's Michael Gale came off the bench to tally the game's first goal early in the second half. Call Nichols chipped a long pass ahead to Gale, who ran onto the ball on a breakaway down the right wing. Gale fired a shot to the lower corner to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead at 50:05.  Trinity nearly tied the contest in the 74th minute when freshman Will Stankiewicz (Townsend, Mass.) hit the left post on a rebound after a shot from the left corner by junior midfielder Mike Galluzzo (Meriden, Conn.).  Bantam junior goalie Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) kept Trinity within one in the 80th minute, sprinting out to stop Gale on a one-on-one attempt, but the Polar Bears then sealed the win five minutes later when Eddie Jones broke loose behind the Trinity defense and booted a shot that was tipped by Schonberg before trickling over the goal line.  Will Wise collected two saves in the win for Bowdoin while Schonberg made three stops.
