Middletown, R.I. – Senior captain attackman Harper
Cullen (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) and senior midfielder
Andrew Williamson (Sudbury, Mass.) each scored
three goals as the visiting Trinity College Bantam men's
lacrosse team outscored the Salve Regina University Seahawks, 8-1,
in the second half en route to a 13-6 win in thisafternoon at a
rainy Gaudet Field.
Freshman Jeff Hebert (Cornwall, Ontario) added
two goals and two assists for the Bantams, who improved to 3-1 on
the season. Junior Evan Gates (Ridge, N.J.) and
sophomore Chris Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) each
scored twice for the Seahawks who saw their two-game win streak
snapped and drop to 4-4.
With the game tied at five at the start of the third period,
Trinity scored the only three goals of the third to take an 8-5
lead. Hebert put the Bantams in front 7-6 with his third of the
season at 11:34, and goals by Cullen at 3:41 and junior Max
Alderman (Sudbury, Mass.) at 1:17 wrapped the scoring in
the stanza. After a goal by Gates to open the fourth for Salve
Regina, the Bantams scored the final five goals of the period to
seal the win, including two by junior Kevin Looby (Kansas
City, Mo.).
Senior Ben Caron (East Longmeadow, Mass.)
opened the scoring 59 seconds into the first. Trinity answered with
goals by Williamson and freshman Nick Shaheen
(Williamsburg, Mass.) to give the Bantams a 2-1 lead at
the end of one. The Bantams scored three of the first four
goals in the second period to grab a 5-2 lead, including two by
Williamson. Salve Regina came back to score the final three goals
of the half to tie it up at five.
Sophomore Peter Johnson (Riverside, Conn.) made
13 saves and Chris Connors (Garden City, N.Y.)
recorded eight saves for the Seahawks. Trinity outshot the
Seahawks 37-27 and held a 37-25 edge in ground balls on the
afternoon.
