Medford, Mass. - Sophomore RHP Katherine Poulos (Wilton,
Conn.) allowed just a single unearned run in 6.2 innings
of relief to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 6-5 win
in the first game and a doubleheader split against the Tufts
University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) softball action this afternoon at Spicer Field.
Senior shortstop Casey Sullivan (Berlin, Conn.)
hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning of game
two, giving Tufts a 3-2 victory. Trinity remains atop the
NESCAC East standings after the split with a 7-1 record in the
division and is 15-8 overall. Tufts is second in the NESCAC East at

the bottom of the first. First-year 2B Emily Beinecke
(Concord, Mass.) hit her second home run of the season in
the inning. The Bantams got three back in the top of the second,
including a solo shot by senior SS Patricia Cipicchio
(Southmont, N.C.). After entering with one out in
the first, Poulos allowed just one more Tufts run and five
hits during 6.2 innings of work. Up 4-3 in the bottom of the third,
Tufts had the bases loaded against Poulos with two outs, but
Beinecke's screaming liner was snared by Cipicchio at shortstop.
Trinity went ahead with three runs in the fifth inning.
First-year 3B Caroline Blanchard (Norwich, Conn.)
hit an RBI double and scored a run during the rally. After adding
an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, Tufts had the bases
loaded in the bottom of the seventh when Poulos earned the last out
on a grounder to Cipicchio. The Bantams took advantage of
four Tufts errors in the game. Sophomore
catcher Kristina Yu (Andover, Mass.) was
2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the game. First-year pitcher
Rebecca DiBiase (Wellesley, Mass.) absorbed the
loss, allowed seven hits and four earned runs in a complete game.
In game two, Trinity took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first
when junior 2B Katherine Stoltenberg (Montgomery,
N.J.) singled and scored. Tufts went ahead 2-1 in the
bottom of the inning, combining a walk to lead-off hitter
Lizzy Iuppa (Paramus, N.J.), a double by Beinecke,
a sacrifice fly from Sullivan and Tong's RBI single. The Bantams
tied the score at 2-2 in the third as Stoltenberg singled and
scored again.
Pitchers Izzie Santone (Madison, Conn.) from
Tufts and Lindsay Gibbons (Basking Ridge, N.J.)
from Trinity didn't allow any runs from the fourth through seventh
innings. As the game went to extra innings, Trinity had
runners on first and second with two outs and Santone ended the
threat with a ground out. Sullivan led off the bottom the
eighth with a line drive smash to center to win it. Santone
allowed nine hits and one earned run while striking out five and
walking one in eight innings for her fourth win. Beinecke and
sophomore LF Bri Cilley (Wells, Maine) each had
two of Tufts' nine hits. Gibbons pitched well in a losing
effort, allowing eight hits and three runs with two strike outs and
a walk in seven innings. Stoltenberg and first year LF
Amelia Mostovoy (San Francisco, Calif.) had two
hits each for the Bantams.
