Middlebury, Vt. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams dropped a
1-0 decision against the Middlebury College Panthers in New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this
afternoon. Trinity falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the
NESCAC, while Middlebury moves to 2-0 overall and in the league
while remaining unbeaten against Trinity in its last 13 games.
Middlebury had some golden opportunities in the first half,
including a shot just wide by Tyler Macnee in the eighth minute
after taking a feed from Carson Cornbrooks. Six minutes later,
Trinity keeper Grant Schonberg,
who finished with two saves, made a quality stop on a corner kick
on an attempt by Macnee after service from Robbie Redmond. Taylor
Wilkins went hard to the goal in the 20th minute, with his shot
just missing the crossbar.
The Panthers broke onto the scoreboard at the 51:31 mark of the
second half, when Jake Edwards scored his first of the year.
Cornbrooks fed Edwards, whose shot hit Schonberg and then crossed
the goal line. Middlebury kept up the pressure in the second
half with more scoring chances, but could not increase their lead.
Trinity's best opportunity came in the 75th minute, but Connor Reilly's shot was denied by a diving save from Tim Cahill, who had
three stops in the game. The Panthers ended the game with an 11-5
shots advantage.
