Hartford, Conn. – Junior
Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) scored two goals for
the second time this season to lead the Trinity College Bantams to
a 3-0 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action
this afternoon. Trinity improves to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-1
in the league, while Bates slips to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the
league.
Howard continued her scoring spree early in
the first half with her first goal of the game in the 16th minute
of action, her fifth of the season. Later in the first half,
junior transfer Katie Giberson (Valhalla, N.Y.)
scored her first career goal with the Bantams to give Trinity a 2-0
cushion. Howard would put the game out of reach with another
goal midway through the second half to give the Bantams all they
would need to secure the victory.
Trinity's defensive unit, anchored by
senior Caroline Washburne (Medfield, Mass.),
juniors Shawna Altdorf (Brooklyn, Conn.), and
Kristen Ramsay (Glastonbury, Conn.), sophomore
Stefanie Griglak (San Diego, Calif.) and
goalkeepers Lily Pepper (Princeton Junction, N.J.)
and Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.), have yet to
allow a goal this season. The Bantams have collected six
shutouts in their last seven games, dating back to last
season. Trinity is the only NESCAC team without a loss on
their overall record this season.
