Trinity Football Looks For Fourth Straight Win Over Williams This Weekend

Hartford, Conn., Sept. 29, 2010 -- The Trinity College football team, which won, 33-6, against Colby last weekend in its season opener, will visit the Williams College Ephs on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m. in its first road game of the year.  The Bantams, coached by Jeff Devanney (5th season, 28-5),  and the Ephs are currently tied with Amherst, Middlebury, and Tufts for first place in the NESCAC at 1-0.  The Bantams, who own a 36-game winning streak at home, are looking to snap their two-game losing slide on the road.  Trinity posted a 26-21 win in Williamstown last fall en route to a 5-0 start to the season, and has beaten the Ephs three times in a row.  Trinity trails the all-time series against Williams, 35-31-2, in one of the fiercest rivalries in all of Division III football, but has won six of the last seven meetings.  Williams has not beaten Trinity since 2006, when the Ephs snapped the Bantams' 31-game winning streak with a 31-10 win in Williamstown.  Trinity won, 20-17, at Williams two years ago.

In the Williams game last fall, current senior captain WR Michael Galligan (Shoreham, N.Y.) caught nine passes for 97 yards, including two touchdown catches in the final 1:48 to turn a 21-13 deficit into a 26-21 triumph.  Fellow senior Tim Costello (Solana Beach, Calif.) connected on two field goals, and senior CB Harry Melendez (Holyoke, Mass.) added a 48-yard interception return for a score.  Senior QB Craig Drusbosky (Orange, Conn.) completed 22 of 44 passes, including tosses of 16 yards and 11 yards with 1:48 and 14 seconds on the clock, respectively, for 259 yards without an interception, and senior captain ILB Francois Auzerais (Westport, Conn.) made a team-high12 tackles.

Against Colby, freshman RB Ben Crick (Middlebury, Conn.) rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown, all in the first half, and Drusbosky added 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air, as the Bantams coasted to a 15th consecutive season opener and remained flawless in their 36 games played on the artificial turf at Jessee/Miller Field.  Trinity led, 20-0, at halftime and, 26-0, heading into the fourth quarter.  Trinity gained 201 yards on the ground with nine different ball carriers, while holding the Mules to 49 rushing yards on 29 carries.  The Bantam offensive line, consisting of senior captain C Matt Santora (Westport, Conn.), sophomore guards Gino Arnold (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Andrew Weiss (New York, N.Y.), senior T Andrew Mortati (South Salem, N.Y.), and sophomore T Mike Valenti (Bethel, Conn.) also did not allow a sack.  Drusbosky finished 13-for-23 and did not throw an interception, finding senior TE Chris Hunt (Westford, Mass.) five times for 108 yards including a 15-yard scoring toss.  Junior NT Matt Delconte (Berlin, Conn.) paced the Trinity defense with seven tackles, including three for losses, and an interception, while junior NT Tom Finnucan (Orange, Conn.) added six hits, and sophomore S Julian Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) intercepted a pass.

The Williams College football squad, in its first year under Head Coach Aaron Kelton after Mike Whalen left to become the Wesleyan coach in the off-season, won their 2010 opener against Bowdoin, 33-15.  Senior RB Ryan Lupo rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, while freshman Alex Scyocurka added 10 carries for 67 yards, as the Ephs outgained the Polar Bears, 237 to 52 on the ground.  Senior Pat Moffitt completed 17 passes in 32 attempts with two scores and one interception, including two scoring strikes to senior tri-captain WR Bryce Bennett.  Sophomore LB Chris Cameron totaled 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble to power the Williams defense, and senior Pat Barren returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown.  Junior P/K Chris Cleary averaged just 23.2 yards on four punts and missed an extra-point.  Lupo is the reigning NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Barren is the NESCAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Trinity is ranked No. 4 in the latest New England Division III Poll, while Williams is one spot behind at No. 5.  This week's New England Division III Poll: 1. Amherst (0-0), 2. Springfield (3-1), 3. Curry (3-1), 4. Trinity (Conn.) (1-0), 5. Williams (1-0), 6. WPI (3-1), 7. Framingham State (3-1), 8. Endicott (3-1), 9. Maine Maritime (2-1), 10. Plymouth State (2-1).
