Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore
Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored 22 points,
connecting on five three-pointers, as the Trinity College Bantams
pulled away from the Baruch College Bearcats with a 87-79 win in
women's basketball action tonight on Ogrodnik Court at
Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 14-10 overall, while
Baruch falls to 20-5 on the year.
Trinity led 41-35 at the midway point behind
a fast start from Emily Dixon (Norwood, Mass.) in
her first career start at the college level. Dixon finished
the first half with eight points and four rebounds, while junior
Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) chipped in
with nine first half points.
Trinity pulled away from Baruch early in the
second half, building their lead to as many as 21 points, but the
Bearcats clawed their way back, cutting the lead to 11 points by
the game's final minute with a 25-17 run. Senior
tri-captain Monique Salmon (Bronx, N.Y.) was just
three rebounds shy of a triple-double for Baruch, finishing the
game with 18 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Junior
tri-captain Folashade Akinde (Homewood, Ill.) also
recorded a double-double for Baruch with 18 points and 10
rebounds.
Trinity junior Kaitlin Ciarleglio
(Waterbury, Conn.) overcame a tough shooting night to
contribute in other ways, finishing the game with six points, 10
assists, and six rebounds. Royals finished the game with 19
points for the Bantams, while senior tri-captain guard
Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) sank three
trifectas in the game.
The game was the last on home court for the
Bantams, who travel to Amherst to take on the Lord Jeffs in the
first round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) Championship Tournament, this Sat., Feb. 19 at 4
p.m.
