Trinity Men's Squash Pulls Away From Rochester To Reach CSA Finals

Cambridge, Mass.  – With the match tied early at 2-2, the Trinity College Bantams rattled off four wins in a row en route to a 6-3 victory over the University of Rochester Yellowjackets in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Men's Championship Semifinals this afternoon at Harvard University.  Twelve-time defending national champion Trinity, ranked No. 1 in the nation, improves to 19-0 and extends the longest winning streak in the history of intercollegiate varsity sports to 243 in a row.  The top-seeded Bantams will play No. 2-seeded Yale, in a re-match of the 2010 Finals, in the tomorrow's 2011 final tomorrow at noon at Harvard.  Yale downed Princeton, 7-2, in its semifinal match this afternoon.  No. 4-seeded Rochester drops to 12-4 and will play a consolation match against Princeton tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Rochester took a 1-0 lead when Adam Perkiomaki downed Bantam junior Antonio Diaz-Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico), 3-1, in the No. 6 match.  Trinity senior Daniel Echavarria (Bogota, Colombia) returned the favor with a 3-1 triumph against Oscar Lopez in the No. 9 match, and senior tri-captain Andres Vargas (Bogota, Colombia) won the final two games to earn a 3-2 win against Andres Duany in the No. 3 match to give Trinity a 2-1 lead.  After a 3-0 shutout in the No. 8 match by Matt Domenick over Trinity sophomore Juan Flores (San Salvador, El Salvador), Bantam senior Randy Lim (Penang, Malaysia) started the Bantam roll with a 3-1 win in the No. 5 match, and sophomore Johan Detter (Malmoe, Sweden) blanked Juan Pablo Gaviria, 3-0, to clinch Trinity's 15th straight appearance in the CSA Finals with a 3-0 win at No. 7.  Ben Fisher edged Trinity junior No. 1 Vikram Malhotra (Mumbai, India), 3-2, in to account for the final score.  Trinity senior tri-captain Parth Sharma (Jaipur, India) and senior Chris Binnie (Kingston, Jamaica) posted the other Bantam wins.
