Trinity Men's Lacrosse Takes Opener From No. 10-Ranked Connecticut College

New London, Conn.—The Trinity College Bantam men's lacrosse team went on a 5-0 run midway through the second half to pull away in a 14-9 victory against the Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon.  Trinity, playing its first game under new Head Coach Michael Higgins, is 1-0 overall and in the NESCAC, while the Camels, ranked No. 10 in the nation, is 0-1 in the league and overall.

Second-year attackmen Rob Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) and Jeff Hebert (Cornwall, Ont.) both contributed with three goals and an assist for the Bantams.  Nick Shaheen (Williamsburg, Mass.) added two goals and two assists while junior net-minder Peter Johnson (Riverside, Conn.) turned back 11 Connecticut College shots en route to the win.  Connecticut College senior Ryan Hayes (Darien, Conn.) netted a game-high four goals in the setback for the hosts. Sophomore midfielder John Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) registered two goals and two assists for the Camels.  Junior Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) won 16-of-24 face-offs for Connecticut College.  Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) made five saves and classmate John Lenehan (Hingham, Mass.) stopped three shots in relief.  The Bantams out-shot the Camels 35-to-32 and held a 29-to-27 advantage in ground balls.

Trinity carried a 2-1 lead after one and held a 7-5 advantage at the break. But in the third quarter, Hayes cashed in on two extra man opportunities, pulling the hosts to within 8-7 when Lyons assisted him for a goal with 9:25 to go in the quarter.  However, Trinity responded by scoring the next five goals. Hebert scored twice during the run and netted a goal to close out the rally with 9:01 remaining.
