Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore attackman Jeff
Hebert (Cornwall, Ontario) notched five goals and one
assist to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 18-11 win over the
visiting Wheaton College Lyons in men's lacrosse action this
afternoon. Trinity, ranked No 19 in the nation, improves to
4-0, while the Lyons fall to 1-3. The Bantams last opened the
season with four wins in 1999-00.
Trinity scored eight times in the second quarter to break open a
4-3 game, including an unassisted tally by sophomore midfielder
Steve Manning (Tyngsboro, Mass.) with 10 seconds
remaining before the break to give the Bantams a 12-6 lead at the
halfway point. Trinity maintained at least a six-goal lead in
the second half. Hebert gave Trinity the lead for good at 2-1
on his first goal of the game early in the first quarter, while
sophomore attackman Rob Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.)
scored all four of his goals in the first half.
Senior captain attackman Chris Landers (Manchester,
Mass.) paced the Lyon attack with four goals and one
assist, while junior attackman Billy McNamara (Mansfield,
Mass.) added two goals and two assists, and freshman
goalie Jesse O'Neil (Charlestown, Mass.)
made 14 saves. Junior Peter Johnson (Riverside,
Conn.) earned the win in goal with five saves in three
quarters for the Bantams, who dominated possession with 54
groundballs to 24 for Wheaton. Trinity face-off men
Tim Reichert (Williston, Vt.), who picked up a
game-high 11 ground balls, T.J. Cholnoky (Greenwich,
Conn.), and Will Benjamin (Garrison,
N.Y.) combined to win 25 out of 33 attempts.
