Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams outscored
the visiting Babson College Beavers, 10-4, in the second half in an
18-12 men's lacrosse victory this afternoon on Jessee/Miller
Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England and No. 14 in the
nation, improves to 9-2 overall with its first win in three games,
while the Beavers drop to 7-6 and end a three-game winning
streak.
With the game knotted at 8-8 at the half, Trinity senior
attackman Greg Brennan (Setauket, N.Y.) scored the
go-ahead goal 1:11 into the third quarter from sophomore midfielder
Nick Shaheen (Williamsburg, Mass.), and Bantam
sophomore attackman Rob Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.)
netted the second of his game-high five goals 27 seconds
later. The teams traded goals for the remainder of the third
stanza, but the Bantams rattled off four unanswered tallies,
including two man-down goals, in the first 3:48 of the fourth frame
to put the game out of reach.
Neither team held more than a one-goal lead in the first half,
as Beaver senior captain attackman Armand Wilson
(Fairfield, Conn.) scored twice and assisted on a third
Babson goal before the break. Eight different Trinity players
scored once in the first half. Shaheen tied the game at 8-8
with 36 seconds left in the second quarter.
Shaheen led all scorers with seven points on three goals and
four assists, while Nogueras added an assist to his five goals, and
Bantam senior attackman Kevin Looby (Kansas City,
Mo.) notched a hat trick plus a helper. Sophomore
attackman Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) paced
Babson with three goals and two assists, while junior midfielder
Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) added three goals
and one assist. Trinity sophomore faceoff man T.J.
Cholnoky (Greenwich, Conn.) won 13 of 22 faceoffs and tied
Babson senior defenseman Brian Kucinski (Cohasset,
Mass.) with a game-high six ground balls. Trinity
junior goalie Peter Johnson (Riverside, Conn.)
made 12 stops and picked up four ground balls, and Beaver sophomore
backstop James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) made 10
saves.
