Box Score

Worcester, Mass. - In the 33rd minute, senior Justin Biela (Bridgewater, Mass.) received a pass from sophomore Chris Sanborn (Holden, Mass.) and scored from 20 yards out to give the Worcester State University Lancers a 1-0 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in men's soccer action this evening.  Trinity drops to 0-1-1, while the Lancers improve to 2-2.

Trinity held the upper hand in momentum for much of the game, outshooting Worcester State, 18-8, overall and, 13-5, in first half.  Both teams played a physical game, amassing 38 combined fouls.  The Bantams had a chance early in the second half in the 53rd minute to knot the score on a free kick by senior midfielder Wesley Updike (Cambridge, Mass.) from just outside the box, but the kick was blocked by a Worcester State wall of defenders.  The Lancers maintained possession of the ball late in the game.

Lancers senior goalkeeper Evan Wilga (Webster, Mass.) stopped eight shots for his second consecutive shutout and the 11th of his career, while Bantam senior captain Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) made four saves.  Both were tested with hard shots from close early in the second half but made impressive stops.
