Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Lauren Glynn (Arlington, Mass.) and first-year Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) scored two goals apiece to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in women's ice hockey action this afternoon on Williams Rink at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity improves to 3-6 overall, while Southern Maine drops to 3-6-1 on the year after dropping both games to Trinity in this weekend's two-game series.
Trinity took a 3-0 lead in the first period behind goals by senior co-captain Brigitte Cellino (Buffalo, N.Y.), Robinson, and Glynn, who scored with just :42 seconds remaining in the period, the goal proving to be the game-winner. Southern Maine opened the second with a quick power play goal by junior Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine), before Trinity closed the second with three more goals to increase their lead to 6-1.
Southern Maine kept hope with a quick goal in the third period by sophomore Erin Banfield (Montpelier, Vt.), cutting the Trinity lead to 6-2 with 14:19 to play. Trinity had a five on three advantage after consecutive penalties on the Huskies, but Southern Maine killed the power play, and eventually gained an advantage themselves after a whistle on the Bantams. The Huskies were unable to capitalize, and the teams remained deadlocked the rest of the way, as the Bantams put the finishing touch on their second straight win.
Robinson's goals were the first two of her collegiate career. Trinity sophomore Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.) found the back of the net for the third straight game, while sophomore goaltender Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) earned the win in net for the Bantams, with six saves in one shutout period of action. Sophomore goaltender Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) made 15 stops and allowed two goals in the final two periods of action. Southern Maine first-year starter Nikki Lauziere (Milton, Vt.) made 38 saves in the game.
Trinity takes on NESCAC rival Williams College on Fri., Jan 6, at 7 p.m. in a game that will be webcast live at www.trincoll.tv, and again the next day at 3 p.m.
