Box Score Gorham, Maine – Sophomore Katelyn Ladd (Billerica, Mass.)
scored at 1:41 of the third period to give the University of
Southern Maine Huskies a 2-2 overtime tie with the visiting Trinity
College Bantams in a women's ice hockey game this
afternoon at the USM Ice Arena. Trinity closes the fall
semester at 3-2-3, having lost at Southern Maine, 2-1, alst night
to open the two game series, while the Huskies head into final
exams with a 3-3-3 record.
Ladd took a pass from freshman Cassandra Sherman (North
Smithfield, R.I.) at the right point and flipped a shot toward goal
that found its way through a maze of players in front of Trinity
junior goaltender Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) and into the
net for her first collegiate goal. Senior Alex Smith
(Winthrop, Mass.) also earned an assist on the play.
Maxwell and Southern Maine rookie goalie Jenn Fuller
(Houston, B.C.) held the teams at bay through the remainder of the
third period and the five-minute extra session to preserve to the
tie. Fuller stopped 12 shots in the third period en route to
a game total of 29 saves. Maxwell made five stops in the
overtime period, including a game-saving stop on junior Brittany
Soar (Boxborough, Mass.), to finish with 18 saves.
Soar gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the opening period as her
turnaround shot from the left wing circle found its way past
Maxwell for her second marker of the season. Seniors Ashley
Grenier (South Berwick, Maine) and Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine)
picked up the assists. Trinity equalized in the second period
when sophomore Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) scored her fourth
goal of the season at 7:18 off a feed from freshman Martha Griffin
(Exeter, N.H.). The Bantams took the lead with 14 seconds
remaining in the second period as senior Chelsea Campbell (Surrey,
B.C.) potted her first goal of the campaign. Campbell was
stationed in the slot and redirected a shot past Fuller.
Sophomore Lily Gacicia (Milton, Mass.) and rookie Cheeky Herr
(Princeton, N.J.) were credited with the assists.
