(Parkland, Fla.) had two goals and one assist to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 7-3 victory over the visiting Roger
Williams University Hawks in men's lacrosse action this
afternoon on Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity, ranked No. 10 in
New England, improves to 2-2 with its second win in a row, while
the Hawks fall to 2-3 with their third consecutive setback.
Trinity broke open a 2-2 game with two goals late in the first
quarter and the lone tally of the second frame. Sophomore
midfielder Nick Branholm (Jacksonville, Fla.)
one-timed in a pass from the right wing by junior attacker
Jeff Hebert (Cornwall, Ontario) to give Trinity a
3-2 lead with 4:25 left in the first quarter, and Nogueras scored
unassisted goals with 1:26 remaining in the first and with 10:21
left before the break. Roger Williams sophomore attackman
Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.) broke a 25:43 scoring
drought for the Hawks with a behind-the-head shot past Trinity
senior captain goalie Peter Johnson (Riverside,
Conn.) early in the third quarter, but the Bantam defense
held Roger Williams scoreless the rest of the way.
Trinity nearly doubled the Hawks' shot output with a
39-to-20- edge and held a 28-to-19 advantage on ground balls and a
10-to-3 edge on face-offs. The teams combined for 54
turnovers and were both scoreless on five extra-man opportunities
apiece. Branholm scored twice, while Johnson finished with
seven saves, and junior middie Drew Grombala (Cincinnati,
Ohio) picked up a game-high four ground balls for the
Bantams. Trinity senior captain defenseman Alex
Gottsch (Sparks, Md.) had three ground balls and five
caused turnovers, while junior face-off man T.J. Cholnoky
(Greenwich, Conn.) won six of his seven
opportunities. Nessa recorded a hat trick to account for all
the Hawk scoring, while freshman goalie Luke Aubrey
(Norwalk, Conn.) made 12 saves, and rookie defenseman
Mark Fesenmeyer (Norwalk, Conn.) caused four
turnovers.
