Box Score Brunswick, Maine - Toni DaCampo hit a two-out, game-tying home
run in the bottom of the seventh and Casey Correa slammed a
walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Bowdoin
College Polar Bear softball team to a dramatic 4-3 win over the
Trinity College Bantams this afternoon at Pickard Field. The
Polar Bears improve to 18-8, overall and 1-3 in the New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and take game one of the
their three-game set with Trinity which drops to 8-12 overall and
2-5 NESCAC in the league. The teams will play a doubleheader
tomorrow beginning at noon.
Amy Hackett got Bowdoin on the scoreboard in the bottom of the
first, singling up to the middle to score Gen Barlow. Trinity
answered in the top of the second on a solo home run by freshman 2B
Miranda Riendeau-Card (Bowdoinham, Maine) and took the lead in the
top of the third when junior 1B Kerry McCarthy (Andover,
Mass.) doubled home sophomore CF Christina Galese (Fairfield,
N.J.). Bowdoin rallied to even the score at 2-2 in the bottom
of the fourth when Correa tripled down the right-field line to
plate Hackett, but the Bantams were able to regain the lead
in the fifth when sophomore Claire Prosperi (Northbrook, Ill.)
hit a solo home run to give the visitors a 3-2 edge.
Trinity appeared poised to take game one of the weekend set
after Barlow was caught stealing for the second out with
DaCampo at the plate in the bottom of the seventh. But DaCampo
ripped a 3-1 pitch over the fence in left-center to for extra
frames. After Melissa DellaTorre retired Trinity in the top
of the eighth, Correa led off the bottom of the frame with a
long drive to left, giving
owdoin the walk-off win. Correa had three hits in the game
while DaCampo reached base three times. Amy Hackett had two
hits as well for Bowdoin. Riendeau-Card led Trinity with two
hits. DellaTorre earned the win by scattering six hits over
eight innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out eight.
Senior co-captain RHP Katherine Poulos (Wilton, Conn.) allowed four
earned runs in the loss on seven hits with five strikeouts.
