Box Score Middletown, Conn. - The Wesleyan University Cardinals earned a 63-45 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action today. Trinity drops to 7-5 overall, and 1-1 in the NESCAC, while the Cardinals improve to 7-4 overall, and 1-1 in the league.
Leading from start to finish, Wesleyan took control midway through the first half with an 8-0 run to push a 15-11 margin to a 23-11 lead and never looked back. Wesleyan capped its 8-0 run with a pair of inside buckets from senior Kendra Harris, who led all scorers with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Once ahead by 12, Wesleyan only briefly had its lead dip under double digits when the Bantams got a basket from junior
Moriah Sweeney (Ramsey, N.J.) near the end of the first half to make it a 31-22 game. Wesleyan closed out the first-half scoring with a three-pointer from junior KellyAnn Rooney, who ended the game with 12 points, for a 34-22 margin. In the second half, the difference grew as large as 24 at 63-39 with 4:20 remaining before the Bantams scored the game's final six points.
Trinity was led offensively by Sweeney with eight points while sophomore
Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) tied for game-high honors on the board with Heath by snagging seven caroms. Also in double-digit scoring for Wesleyan was junior Amber Wessells with 10 points along with four assists. Wesleyan got a team-high seven rebounds from sophomore Dreisen Heath, who also contributed nine points.
