Trinity Men's Soccer Falls At Connecticut College

Box Score

New London, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's soccer team scored five consecutive goals Saturday to pull away for a 5-2 victory against the visiting Trinity College Bantams on Tempel Green this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 7 in New England, falls to 7-4-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), while the Camels, ranked No. 10 in the region, improve to 8-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the league.  Trinity closes the 2013 regular season at home against undefeated and No. 4-ranked Amherst needing a win or a tie or a Hamilton loss or tie in its game at Williams the same day to qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament which opens next weekend.

Sophomore Malcolm Joseph (Sudbury, Mass.) and senior midfielder Trevor Doolittle (Milford, Conn.) supplied scores for the Bantams.  Joseph's goal was the first of his career.  Senior Billy Hawkey (Pennington, N.J.) scored twice for the Camels. Colin Patch (Providence, R.I.), Weller Hlinomaz (New York, N.Y.) and Ryland Hormel (San Francisco, Calif.) chipped in with scores for the hosts.  Trinity freshman goalie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) stopped three shots in the first half of action, while junior Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) added six saves in the second stanza.  Max Nichols (Mill Valley, Calif.) recorded four saves and classmate Casey Marini (Hampden, Mass.) saw his first action of the year in relief, logging 14 minutes of play between the pipes.  The Camels held a 21-to-9 advantage in shots while Trinity enjoyed a 9-to-4 edge on corner kicks.

The Bantams wasted little time getting on the board. In the opening minute of play, Joseph weaved his way through the Camel defense and fired one in just below the cross bar.  The Camels responded in the 19th minute of action. Colin Patch unloaded on a free kick from the 18-yard line with a blast that landed just inside the left post side of the goal. With 12:03 left, Hormel and Hawkey put together a nice run on a 2-on-1 situation.  With 4:01 left, Ajami Gikandi (Far Hills, N.J.) delivered a low cross from the left side and Hormel met the ball with a header from point-blank range to put the hosts on top, 3-1.

In the second stanza, the Camels added to their lead when Hlinomaz scored in the 56th minute of action, and Doug Garabedian (Salem, Mass.) delivered a corner kick from the left side to Hawkey, who found the back of the net for his second score of the day.  The Bantams got one back in the 89th minute when senior Julian Goksch (Centerport, N.Y.) connected with Doolittle for a score.
