Trinity Women's Soccer Streak Halted by Bowdoin

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. –  The Bowdoin Polar Bear offense scored three first half goals as the visitors handed the Trinity College Bantams their first loss of the season, a 3-0 defeat, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon on Campus Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 13 in the nation, drops its first game in ten matches, falling to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the NESCAC.  Bowdoin improves to 7-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.  Trinity, which fell one win shy of the team's best-ever start to a season, remains atop the league standings despite today's loss.

Bowdoin got ahead early and stayed ahead, as sophomore Kiersten Turner (Gorham, Maine) scored in the 17th minute of action.  In the 26th minute, senior co-captain Molly Popolizio (Rexford, N.Y.) tallied the second Bowdoin goal, while rookie Abby Hammerl (Wenham, Mass.) put the Bantams in a big hole at the intermission with a goal with just over two minutes remaining in the opening frame.  The Bowdoin defense provided plenty of protection for sophomore goalie Bridget McCarthy (Hopkinton, Mass.), who made five saves to earn her fourth straight shutout.  Trinity sophomore goalkeeper Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied one save in the game.
