Box Score Norton, Mass. – Wheaton College junior forward Abbie
Brickley (Sandy, Utah) led all scorers with 23 points and added six
rebounds and four steals to guide the Lyons past the visiting
Trinity College Bantams, 75-59, in the championship game of the
Cheryl Warren-Powers '95 Memorial Women's Basketball
Tournament this afternoon at Emerson Gymnasium. Trinity is
1-1 and Wheaton is 2-0.
Trinity senior forward Taylor Murtaugh (New York, N.Y.) tallied
a team-high 16 points with four rebounds. Classmate Shantel
Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) collected 11 points and nine rebounds
and senior Moriah Sweeney (Ramsey, N.J.) chipped in with 10

Wheaton led from the opening tip-off jumping out to a 6-0 run
lead and never looking back. Brickley scored back-to-back buckets
to get the offense rolling and Shoemaker followed with a layup of
her own before Murtaugh put the Bantams on the board at 17:53 with
a jumper. Trinity cut its deficit within one possession on three
separate occasions over the next 6:33 of action as Hanniford made
it a 14-12 game at the 11:20 mark with a jump shot on the fast
break. The Lyons responded with a 26-19 run to close out the
half receiving contributions from seven different student-athletes
down the stretch. Wheaton extended its lead to double digits early
in the second half. Sweeney, who had 17 points in yesterday's
first-round win over Rensselaer, represented Trinity on the
all-tournament team.
