Trinity, ranked No. 15 in the nation, stays perfect for the year at 6-0, while the Colonials drop to 2-6 with their fifth consecutive setback. The 6-0 start is Trinity's best since 1968 when the Bantams went 8-0 on its way to a 9-2 season and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Trinity had several early chances with the game still scoreless, beginning in the seventh minute when Savonen drilled a shot from the top of the box off the cross bar and junior forward Tim Shea (Somerset, Mass.) missed wide right with the rebound attempt. Western Connecticut sophomore goalie Bon Strevel (Enfield, Conn.) narrowly beat Bantam freshman midfielder Tobias Gimand (Fairfield, Conn.) to the ball in space in front of the net in the 13th minute, and Carrasquillo outraced the entire Colonial defense and shot past Strevel from the left wing but hit the left post in the 20th minute. Colonial freshman forward Andriy Paparo (Bethel, Conn.) missed just to the left of the goal on a similar play to Carrasquillo's close chance just three minutes later, before Savonen scored the only goal Trinity needed from Carrasquillo and sophomore back Mark Perreault (Southborough, Mass.) inside the 28th minute of play.
The offenses got quiet for the remainder of the first half and the early moments of the second half, but Paparo and Trinity senior Andrew McNair (Westport, Conn.) traded well-placed shots from the top of the box that both sailed just wide of an opposing post just under 20 minutes into the second half. Trinity added an insurance goal in the 79th minute when Carrasquillo converted on a pass by. Freshman Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) earned the victory in goal for Trinity after making four saves. Strevel turned away six shots for Western.
