Box Score Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams returned to
game action on the ice after a 27-day layoff with a 6-1 win over
the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in women's
hockey action this evening on Williams Rink in the Koeppel
Community Sports Center. Trinity evens its record at 3-3-3,
while the Huskies fall to 6-4. The teams will close out the
two-game series in Hartford tomorrow at 4 p.m.
Trinity jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one period and led, 5-0,
through 30 minutes before Southern Maine scored its only goal of
the game 11:33 into the second frame. Trinity sophomore
forward Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) scored the first goal of the
game and the only Bantam score of the second stanza on power plays,
while senior captain forward Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.)
provided assists on both of Tani's tallies. Kleidon
added a third helper in the third period, feeding sophomore forward
Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.) to close out the
scoring.
Sophomore forward Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine), senior
forward Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.), and senior defender Sarah
Duncan (Dedham, Mass.) also scored for Trinity, while sophomore
blueliner Shelby Labe (Pine Brook, N.J.) added two assists.
Farrell's game-winner came after a beautiful backhand pass
from behind the net by Heron. Junior captain forward Julia
Pearl (Essex Junction, Vt.) scored on a rebound after the initial
shot by classmate Bridget O'Brien (Boston, Mass.) for
Southern Maine.
Both teams were penalized six times for 12 minutes, but Trinity
was 3-for-6 with the extra skater and the Huskies were
0-for-5. Trinity senior goaltender Kristen Maxwell
(Nashville, Tenn.) made 23 saves, including 10 in the second period
when Southern Maine recorded 11 of its 24 shots on goal.
Husky junior Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.) made 37 stops in
net.
