Brunswick, Maine – The Trinity College football team erased a double-digit second half deficit and scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 17-10 win over Bowdoin on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference Action (NESCAC) at Whittier Field.

The Bantams remain perfect on the season with the victory and improve to 5-0. The Polar Bears, who led 10-3 entering the fourth quarter, see their two-game winning streak come to an end as they fall to 2-3 overall. The win was the 16th straight for Trinity versus Bowdoin as the Bantams defense continued their strong play by not allowing a Polar Bears offensive touchdown.

After a scoreless first quarter, Bowdoin put a field goal on the scoreboard with 12:35 remaining in the half when Andrew Sisti buried a 27-yarder to give the Polar Bears a 3-0 lead. On Trinity's ensuing possession, Branden Morin stepped in front of Henry Foye (Madison, Conn.) pass at the Trinity 45 and returned it all the way for a touchdown to give Bowdoin a 10-0 advantage. Kyle Pulek (Cheshire, Conn.) was able to pull the Bantams within a score before halftime, capping a ten-play, 50-yard drive with a 25-yard field goal to make it 10-3 at the break.

The teams traded possessions in the third quarter as Bowdoin maintained their seven-point edge. The Polar Bears made a bid to increase their lead following a fumble recovery by Brendan Lawler, but Sisti missed from 41 yards out. Trinity answered with a nine-play 46-yard drive, but turned it over on downs at the Bowdoin 28 when Tom Wells and Jake Prince sacked Foye.

Trinity tied the game on its first possession of the fourth quarter as the Bantams covered 60 yards in six plays. Foye found senior fullback Michael Budness (Belchertown, Mass.) for a 30-yard strike down to the Bowdoin 30 and, four plays later, hooked up with first-year wideout Bryan Viera (Hull, Mass.) in the corner of the endzone for a 15-yard scoring pass, tying the game with 13:17 remaining.

After a Bowdoin punt, Trinity took over at their own 15 with 11:02 to go. The Bantams covered 85 yards in 10 plays with the big play coming on a 37-yard pass from Foye to junior wide receiver Ian Dugger (West Hartford, Conn.), which moved the ball to the Bowdoin 13. Two plays later, on a third-and-eleven, Foye found senior Chris Ragone (Sarasota, Fla.) on a fade pattern to the back corner with 6:22 to go, giving the visitors at 17-10 edge.

Bowdoin went three-and-out on its next possession and the Bantams milked the clock from there, running out the final 5:26.

Sophomore Gus Ackley (Columbus, Ohio) rushed for 80 yards while first-year Ethan Suraci (North Haven, Conn.) had 72 on the ground for the Bantams. Foye finished 17-23 for 247 yards and a pair of TDs with Dugger catching five for 68 yards. On the defensive side, junior defensive end Lyle Baker (Andover, Mass.) had four tackles for a loss and senior corner back Brian Dones (Philadelphia, Pa.) had three pass break ups for Trinity.

Bowdoin's Tyler Grant rushed for 85 yards on 27 carries while Mac Caputi went 9-25 for 98 yards passing. Christian Dulmaine caught three passes for 44 yards. Bjorn Halvorson had 14 tackles to lead Bowdoin while Morin ended with nine tackles, a sack, 2.5 tackles for a loss, an interception and a pass breakup.

Trinity accumulated 296 of its 426 yards of total offense in the second half and had 15 of their 23 first downs after halftime. Bowdoin ended with 200 yards of total offense for the game.

The Bantams will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 25, with a contest against Middlebury at 12:30.
