Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore RHP Hannah King (Kennebunk, Maine) tossed a three-hitter, allowing a single unearned run and walk while fanning eight, and senior tri-captain Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-1 victory over the visiting Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division softball action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 7-16 overall and evens its division record at 5-5 with the win in the three-game series opener.  Colby drops to 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the division.

Trinity jumped on the scoreboard right away with a three-run first inning.  Sophomore SS Elizabeth McQuaid (Lowell, Mass.) led off with a single and went around to score on a hit by Ostrom, while senior tri-captain CF Christina Galese (Fairfield, N.J.) walked and scored on an illegal pitch and Ostrom came home on a double steal.  King was perfect through innings, but yielded a lead-off single to first-year SS Katie McLaughlin (Glenburn, Maine) in the fourth frame.  With one out, McLaughlin was hung up between first and second base after a pitch, but reached second on a throwing error by Ostrom before scoring on a single by Mule junior 2B Meaghan Lewia (Wells, Maine).  A single by Colby senior co-captain 3B Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario) put runners on second and third base, but King got out of the jam when Ostrom received her third strike past Colby sophomore Carylanne Wolfington (Hallowell, Maine) and threw out Lewia trying to steal third for a double play.

Trinity added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-out, RBI double by senior tri-captain Olivia Berry (Quincy, Mass.), and scored three times in the sixth frame thanks to run-scoring hits by Ostrom and sophomore 3B Erica Correa (Glen Rock, N.J.) and another Mule illegal pitch with a runner on third base.  King improved to 6-9, while Colby junior starter Megan Michie (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) allowed five earned runs and nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched to drop to 3-8.  McQuaid and sophomore 1B Bianca Brenz (Lawrence, Mass.) also had two Bantam hits, while Trinity stole six bases including three by Ostrom and two by McQuaid.
