Nashua, N.H. – For the third straight year, the Trinity College men's soccer team opened the season with a victory as the Bantams blanked Rivier, 2-0, in non-conference action at Raider Field on Wednesday night. In the first-ever meeting between the teams and the first contest for each in 2014, Trinity struck first as senior co-captain Timothy Shea (Somerset, Mass.) found the back off the net off a rebound just over nine minutes into play, while senior goalie Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) and freshman netminder Mateo Zabala (Paterson, N.J.) combined for a shutout between the pipes for the visitors.

The Bantams peppered the Raiders goalkeeper duo of Gary Archambault and Anthony Capozzi all evening, holding a commanding 26-3 advantage in shots. Trinity created plenty of chances taking seven corners to Rivier's one.

With a 1-0 lead midway through the second half, sophomore midfielder Tobias Giamand (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up where he left off last season tallying a goal as classmate Brian Kelley (Menlo Park, Calif.) registered his first collegiate point with an assist on the play.

Katz got the start in goal for the Bantams, making one save in 75 minutes of action to earn the victory, while Zabala turned aside the only shot he faced in relief for Trinity. On the other end, Archambault played the first half allowing one goal and stopping eight shots, while Capozzie surrendered a goal and made two saves during the final 45 minutes.

Trinity returns to action this weekend opening its New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) slate on Saturday, Sept. 6, with a contest at Hamilton before returning to the Constitution State for the home opener against Worcester State on Sept. 7.
