Trinity Men's Soccer Pulls Away From Worcester State In Second Half

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – Senior co-captain forward Tim Shea (Somerset, Mass.) fed sophomore midfielder Tobias Gimand (Fairfield, Conn.) on the game-winning goal in the 64th minute and scored one later in the contest, as the Trinity College Bantams won their third straight men's soccer home opener, 3-0, over the Worcester State University Lancers this afternoon.  Trinity stays unbeaten at 2-0-1 with its third victory in a row over Worcester State, while the Lancers fall to 1-3 with their second loss in a row.

Trinity outshot Worcester State, 6-1, in the first half but neither team scored, as Lancer senior goalie Emil Dedo (Worcester, Mass.) made four of his nine saves in the first 45 minutes.  Shea came close to scoring in the 11th minute when he nearly controlled a pass in the box with just Dedo to beat but could not get the shot off.  Trinity scored the game's first goal with25:20 left in the second half, as Gimand passed the ball from the box back to sophomore Brendan Kelley (Menlo Park, Calif.) who touched it to Shea on the right side, and Shea fed it right back to Gimand in the box who booted it past Dedo.

Worcester State nearly tied the game at 1-1 twice, as the ball appeared to cross the line in the 76th minute but was called off by the officials, and Trinity junior back Jack Vogel (Northborough, Mass.) headed a ball from his own goal line that had gotten by Trinity rookie goalie Mateo Zabata (Paterson, N.J.) moments later off a Lancer corner kick.  Shea scored an insurance goal from junior back Mark Perreault (Southborough, Mass.) in the 86th minute, and sophomore forward Cody Savonen (Orleans, Mass.) added an unassisted tally just over two minutes later to put the game out of reach.  All three Trinity goal scorers notched their second tallies of the season.  Trinity outshot the Lancers, 11-1, in the second stanza for a 17-2 advantage overall.  Zabata recorded a shutout and his first collegiate win with two saves.
