Box Score St. Paul, Minn. - Junior forward Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.)
scored the fifth goal of the first period to break a 2-2 tie, as
the Trinity College Bantams earned a 3-2 victory over the Marian
University Sabres in women's ice hockey action this evening at
Drake Ice Arena. The Bantams returned from a 27-day layoff to
win their third game in a row, improving to 4-2-1, while the Sabres
drop to 3-9 with their fifth consecutive setback. Trinity
will visit No. 8-ranked St. Thomas tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST to close
out its Minnesota trip.
Trinity senior forward Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) and
sophomore forward Kate Fraley (Edina, Minn.) scored 30 seconds
apart in the first period to give the Bantams a 2-0 lead 7:38 into
the game. Nina Laurie scored for the Sabres just 1:13 after
Fraley's goal, and Brittany Syms tied it for Marian with 6:58 left
in the first period. Fitzgerald's and Laurie's goals were
both on power plays.
Bantam senior forward Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) fed Herr
for the clincher with 1:48 remaining before the first break, and
sophomore goaltender Claudia Escue (Carbondale, Colo.) turned away
all 18 shots she faced in the next two frames to improve to 2-2-1.
Ali Glazer had 30 saves in a losing effort for the Sabres
between the pipes.
