Box Score Middlebury, Vt. - The Trinity men's soccer team was unable to rebound from two first half goals by Panther midfielder Luis Echeverria (Caracas, Venezuela), losing to Middlebury 4-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Soccer Quarterfinals.
Middlebury got on the board first 20 minutes into the first half after Echeverria beat Trinity's back line defense and was able to put the ball past a diving Domenic Quade (Norwod, Mass.) thanks to an assist from Daniel O'Grady (New York, N.Y.). Trinity had their best scoring opportunity come early in the first half after nifty foot work from junior Tobias Gimand (Fairfield, Conn.) as he found sophomore Sam Millbury (Peabody, Mass.) in the box. Millbury had a clear shooting lane and ripped a shot towards net but to no incident as the ball sailed high of the goal. Echeverria scored his second goal of the game at the 25 minute mark to put Middlebury up 2-0 as the score remained the same heading into halftime.
Trinity had their work cut out for them entering the second half but weren't able to get anything going as they did not record a single shot on goal on the day. Middlebury added three more goals by Greg Conrad (Peadbody, Mass.), Adam Glaser (Washington, D.C.), and Tyler Bonini (Avon, Conn.) within 10 minutes late in the game to go up 5-0 and put any chance of a comeback out of reach for the Bantams.
The loss ends the Bantams' season with a record of 6-6-4 overall, 3-6-2 in conference play, while the Panthers improve to 13-2-1 overall and move on to play in the NESCAC semi-finals next weekend.
