Box Score Norton, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams downed the Wheaton College Lyons, 4-0, in women's soccer action this afternoon in rainy weather at Mirrione Stadium. Trinity, ranked No 6 in New England, improves to 6-1 with its fifth consecutive win and its third shutout in a row, while the Lyons fall to 6-2 with their third straight setback.
Senior tri-captain Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) earned the clean sheet for Trinity (Conn.), stopping five shots to improve to 6-1 and pick up her fifth shutout. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Caron picked up the loss for Wheaton after earning her first career start and making 10 saves. Four different players scored unassisted goals for Trinity, as the Bantams finished with a 20-to-10 shooting advantage.
The Bantams found the back of the net for the first time in the 30th minute when sophomore Maddie Snyder (Montclair, N.J.) collected her first career goal after dribbling to the top of the 18 and placing the ball into the top right netting. Wheaton's best chance at goal came in the 43rd minute when a pass from midfield made its way to the feet of senior Julia Cipriano. Standing at the top of the box, Cipriano curled the ball toward the right post, but DiFiori shuffled to her left to make the save.
It took just a little over a minute into the second half for Trinity to score its second goal of the day. Junior Nicole Stauffer (Cheshire, Conn.) who scored for the Bantams, while classmates Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) and Kendra Lena (Madison, Conn.) scored Trinity's last two goals in the 62nd and 69th minutes, respectively.
