Pitino Breaks Shutout Mark, Trinity Women's Soccer Shuts Out Connecticut College

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - Two of Trinity College's four shots went in and junior goalkeeper Julia Pitino (Littleton, Mass.) made 11 saves to set a new Bantam single-season shutout record with her ninth of the year, as the Trinity women's soccer team blanked the visiting Connecticut College Camels, 2-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England, improves to 10-2-2 overall with its second straight victory, and the Camels, ranked No. 7 in the region, drop to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in the league with their third setback in a row.  Trinity closes the regular season at Amherst next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and the NESCAC Tournament begins on October 29.

Just a single shot-on-goal was taken and none by the Bantams before sophomore Shannon Kennedy (Hartford, Conn.) scored her first career goal on her first shot of the season from the right side after a pass out of the box by first-year forward Grace Chalmers (Irvine, Calif.) in the 24th minute of play. Another offensive dry spell followed with no shots on goal taken until Trinity sophomore forward Taylor Kirchgessner (Southampton, N.Y.) found the upper left corner of the net from the top of the box to give Trinity a 2-0 lead just over 10 minutes later.  Bantam senior tri-captain Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.) assisted on the play from the back line.

Pitino made 10 of her career-high 11 stops after the break, including one on a long blast from beyond the 50 by Camel junior back Alex Bukovac (Winnetka, Ill.) that she was barely able to knock over the cross bar before it crossed the line over her head on a high bounce.  Pitino sets the Trinity shutout record three days after tying it with a 2-0 clean sheet against Tufts, breaking the previous mark of eight set by Monica DiFiori '16 just last fall.  Connecticut College senior goalkeeper Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) did not make save, as the Camels outshot the Bantams, 16-4, and did not yield a single shot after intermission.
