Men's Soccer Falls at No. 4 Ranked Amherst in Regular Season Finale

Box Score

Amherst, Mass. – The Trinity College men's soccer team fell, 4-0, to No. 4 ranked Amherst College on Wednesday afternoon in the Bantams' regular season finale at Hitchcock Field in Massachusetts. Trinity finishes New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with a 3-6-1 record and 7-6-2 mark overall while Amherst improves to 13-1-1 on the year and 8-1-1 in league action. Amherst clinches the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament while Trinity earns the No. 8 seed.

Amherst struck in the 13th minute of the first half when Fikayo Ajayi (London, U.K.) assisted Weller Hlinomaz (New York, N.Y.) who pushed his first goal of the season past Trinity senior goalie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The Bantams had a good chance to even the score a few minutes later as senior captain Oliver Murphy (Montclair, N.J.) took a shot off of a corner, but Amherst goalkeeper Lee Owen (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) turned it aside to preserve the advantage. Quade came up big just a few moments later as he made three consecutive saves off rebounds to keep it a 1-0 game which was the score at the half.

Amherst took a 2-0 advantage just over three minutes into the second half when Dane Lind (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) found open space in front of Quade and fired a shot on net. Quade stopped the first attempt but the rebound came right back to Lind who made good on the second chance. The Purple & White took a commanding 3-0 advantage a few minutes later when senior Chris Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) found the back of the net for the sixth time this season. Amherst iced the game in the 58th minute when Lind scored his second goal of the afternoon after corralling a loose ball in Trinity's defensive zone and planting it into the back of the net to open up a 4-0 lead for Amherst which would stand as the final score.

Amherst outshot the Bantams, 23-9, on the afternoon as Quade finished the day with eight saves and just one goal allowed for Trinity. Owen earns the win for Amherst after stopping all three Trinity shots that came his way. Trinity awaits the results from the rest of the league to determine where they will play next weekend in the conference quarterfinals while Amherst earns home field advantage after clinching the top spot.
